QCVE is a registered training organisation (RTO) accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). As part of external quality assurance requirement, QCVE complies with the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Quality Framework under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011. The VET Quality Framework requires QCVE to renew the registration as a VET provider on a cycle of five years. QCVE has to comply with ASQA to maintain ongoing registration.
QCVE is aware of the current tertiary education landscape in Australia and internationally. The college is aware of external challenges such as: competition between providers; increased use of technology in learning; changing student expectations; and changes in government policy related to international education. The college is also aware that institutional reputation for quality of courses, academic standards, teaching quality, and the quality of support services and teaching infrastructure will play an important role in student choice to study with a provider. The institutional reputation will also play an important role in maintaining external accreditation in a highly regulated tertiary education landscape with institutions assessed based on the level of risk.
External quality assurance in the Australian VET sector has traditionally used a compliance driven quality assurance framework. Similarly, there has been a significant shift in Australian higher education sector from an improvement-led quality assurance to a compliance driven framework. The external accreditation by ASQA assures QCVE students and other stakeholders such as employers that the college is a legitimate provider of VET and higher education to both domestic and international students.
The Quality Assurance framework places onus on QCVE to ensure compliance with external standards and laws, and foster and promote excellence and improvement culture within the college. The new framework places accountability on college via the academic board and its sub-committees to assure the quality and standard of institutional governance, course design, teaching methods, student assessments, review of courses, teaching, and support services, closing the loop on reviews and assessment of institutional performance using various performance indicators.
